I've solved Lost!

Today's post was going to be a video of one of my favourite scenes. But whilst watching it back something suddenly clicked. I have a very big feeling I've just solved Lost but I need to sleep on it and mull this over because this is a very serious claim to be making and I want to make sure I've got this right.

I'll be back tomorrow either to share this theory or to sheepishly tell you I was wrong. I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight!

Cast Interview

During this countdown, I've tried not to rip stuff off other forums, but this video shown yesterday on DarkUFO's site is great (Thanks Dark).

I know they're actors but they seem genuinely excited about what's in store for us in Season 6, which has "thwarted" Michael Emerson's expectations.

Evangeline mentions "another change of dimension". This is the biggest clue we've had so far as to the direction Season 6 will be taking. Daniel Dae Kim also talks of "a whole new way of telling a story". Lost has had a habit of changing the game each season, what with the introduction of FlashForwards in Season 4 and the jumping around in time of Season 5. I can't wait to see what this "whole new way" is all about.

The Season 6 premiere will be airing stateside in almost exactly 10 days as I write this. This is where the countdown truly begins. I don't think I've ever been so excited about a television event than I am about February 2nd.

Let's hope our expectations will be thwarted aswell.

Lost Pixel Art

As well as being a Lost obsessive, I also like looking at pixel art. I was having a browse on Pixel Joint and came across these rather cute little Pixel Lost characters.

I'm going to scour the net for some more of these, and also some different kinds of fan-art. Which one's your favourite? And do you have any of your own you wanna share with us? I like Jack and his little pixel-scalpel.

42

Lazy post today, because I'm busy trying to beaver away at my revision for an exam in Syntax tomorrow. I just got my grade back for an essay I wrote last week, and it was an appalling 42 (out of 85). That's barely a pass!

'That's not the end of the world!' I hear you say. But then, Hurley said himself that the numbers are bad... and if 42 is indeed part of the Valenzetti Equation, then it could literally pertain to the end of the world... which sucks for me and my Syntax career.

Back tomorrow with a proper post (Jacob Related - Stick around).

I'm gonna fix you!

I've just come across these truly amazing videos by a user called 'theblackbox' on Youtube. These 'Season 6 Preparation' videos are tons better than any of the rubbish promos that have been coming out of ABC lately. There are 7 of them, each dealing with a different theme of the show, and they can all be found in the video player below:

#1 "Destiny"
#2 "Miracles"
#3 "Warfare"
#4 "Life and Death"
#5 "The Experiment"
#6 "Spirits"
#7 "Love"

What About Me?

Benjamin Linus has such a cocky way with words, even in captivity, that usually lands him the butt of a gun in his face, but among all that there are some real gems. Here's a list of ten of most favouitest Ben quotes and one-liners:

*Destiny, John, is a fickle bitch!

*How many times do I have to tell you, John? I always have a plan.

*John: was he talking about what I think he was talking about?
Ben: If you mean time-travelling bunnies, then yes.

*John: You just Killed everybody on that boat...
Ben: So?

*We're the good guys, Michael.

*(To Juliet)
So I guess I'm out of the book-club.

*(on Ajira 316)
Jack: The other people on this plane, what's gonna happen to them?
Ben: Who cares?

*(Still on Ajira 316)
Jack: How can you Read?
Ben: My mother taught me...

*Caesar: How are you feeling Ben?
Ben: Like someone hit me with an oar...

*(to Carl)
Caaaarl! Now if you're gonna sleep with my daughter I insist you call be Ben.

Man, there are so many more, including the entire 'What About Me?' speech from the end of Season 5, but I'll keep it at ten for neatness' sake.

15 days to go!

Location

Let's go to the mortuary! One of the most memorable locations in Lost is Hoffs/Drawler Funeral Parlour where Jack saw a definitely dead John Locke lying stiff in a coffin. The crew managed to magically transform this derelict shop on a dirty street in Downtown Honolulu, into the sombre LA mortuary.

I've never realised until I just found this image about 50 seconds ago that 'HOFFS DRAWLAR' is an anagram of 'FLASHFORWARD', which of course was the 'Snake in the Mailbox' of this episode, Through the Looking-Glass.

Location Location

Dharmaville, Otherville, The Barracks. Whatever you choose to call it this is without doubt one of the most iconic locations on Lost. Rather than build a whole new set, the producers used Camp Erdman, a YMCA mission camp in Waialua, as the home of the Dharma Initiative. Apparently, the buildings weren't always yellow. This was an 'improvement' by the Lost crew.

Believe it or not, theres a dirty great road going through the camp. Would've made the perfect runway...

Location Location Location

One of the great things about Lost is that they film as much of it as possible on location in Hawaii and LA. What's the point in wasting money on designing a sound-stage, when you have everything you need a few beaches away. I recently found myself on Google Earth, trying to find some of the locations from above.

Over the next 3 days I'm going to share some of the cooler filming loactions and give you the coordinates so you can find them yourself on Google Earth (or Maps).

Byodo-In Temple, Oahu

This temple in Hawaii is an exact relpica of the Byodo-in Temple of Uji, near Kyoto in Japan. In Lost it is the home of Mr Paik, Sun's rich and powerful old man.

Happy Snappy Iraqi

Today, before I go and actually do some work, I just thought I'd try to find some videos of Sayid kicking ass (of which there are many).

Only a true badass can snap a man's neck with his hands tied behind his back... This is a truly epic retelling of that scenario with a hilarious twist:

Sayid Snaps!

They won't let me embed this video, so just click on the link... Sayid and Keamy have a badass-off. Fair enough, Sayid has to be rescued by Alpert's gun, but he still pulls off some pretty kick-ass moves.

This last video needs no introduction other than possibly the word 'Dishwasher'... ouch!

I need a cool coat!

Tuesday 12 January 2010

I want my kidney back!

Sticking with Deus Ex Machina, possibly my favourite episode of Season 1, I just love Terry O'Quinn. The noise that comes out of his mouth when the hatch lights up is priceless. I can't wait for some more Locke action in the coming season, whether he's dead or not.

And here's John geting pissed off at a support group:

Monday 11 January 2010

Dude! Looks like someone steam-rolled Harry Potter

Someone has thoughtfully put together this little video from Deus Ex Machina made up of just the scenes involving Jack, Sawyer and Sawyer's eyesight. Lost might be a show about the survivors of a tragic plane crash, and it certainly does have its share of tragedy and tears, but it is scenes like these that make you love the characters even more. There's no love lost between Sawyer and Jack, certainly not in Season 1, but its funny to watch them bicker like an old couple, and Sawyer's "snappy one-liners" always hit the spot.

A real eye-opener

I realised I've missed a day, probably because I didn't sleep on Thursday night, due to last minute Essay panic!

So today I've decided to give you FOUR videos. We're counting down til 9pm(EST) on Feb 2nd. The first scene of any new season is always among the best, so I thought I'd go back and rewatch the season openers from 2-5 (as I said the other day, I still can't seem to find a decent video of the Season 1 opener).

Tabula Rasa

This is a beautiful, beautiful sequence from right back in the the third episode of Season one. I'd already fallen in love with the show by this point, but it was this scene that made me decide L O S T would be my new favourite show. And as an avid X-Phile, this was not an easy decision to make. But it was the song, Wash Away by Joe Purdy, that really did it for me. I could watch this over and over again (and indeed I do).

Map of the Problématique

Short but sweet one today.

One of the things that makes Lost what it is is the Mindf*ck. A plot twist or moment of complete bewilderment that leaves you dragging your jaw long the floor for weeks afterwards.

One of my favourite mindf*cks is Locke's encounter with the Radzinsky's Blast Door Map. The episode as a whole is surely among my top ten, but this scene literally paralysed me in my armchair.

Stu's Top Ten Sawyer's Nicknames

Whew... I made it! At least it's still Tuesday for some people.
Well today is a special day, because there are FOUR weeks to go until the 6th and final season of Lost begins.

I thought I'd mark the occasion in two ways. Firstly. Look! IT's all new and red and rather Web 2.0. Thanks to the lovely people at BTemplates.com for that. And secondly. I thought I'd do a quick rundown of some of my favourite Sawyer Nicknames.

In no particular order:

Gen-u-ine Iraqi - Sayid
Al Jazeera - Sayid
Short Round - Walt
Little Limey Runt - Charlie
Deepdish - Hurley
Oliver Twist - Charlie
Kenny Rogers - Frank
H. G. Wells - Daniel
Shaft - Mr. Eko
Freckles - Kate

Out of the lot, it was H. G. Wells that tickled me the most. Freckles is there because, for me, it is the main 'constant' that has carried through the series from season to season. The show and the characters are so different now than they were in the beginning, but a few things have remained the same, and Sawyer's nickname for Kate is one of those things.

Back tomorrow with another of my favourite scenes... it's a Locke one! Yay!

Monday 4 January 2010

Groovey Train

I'm writing this from a train. There aren't enough trains on Lost! Dharma should have built their own monorail... or even a subway system using Smokey's tunnels. All those Dharma stations and no Dharma railway!

The wireless on this train is pretty good, but it won't let me on Youtube, so there'll be no video today. Instead I'm going to link you up to a couple of other websites pertaining to the countdown to Season 6.

1. Countdown Clock Widget
http://www.lost4815162342.com/countdown/
You're very own Swan Timer cum Season 6 Countdown clock. You can put it on your blog or website, and I'm about to just one on this very blog, too. Also, check out the neat interactive Blast Door Map they have.

2. 108 Things
http://108things.co.uk/
A daily countdown to Season six... kind of like this blog, only about 108 times better! And they had the foresight to begin on a cool number like 108. I only recently discovered their website, but it is definitely worth a butchers.

3. Facebook - 'Lost Season 6' Page
http://www.facebook.com/pages/LOST-Season-6/97780023273
There's a Facebook page for everything these days. And the Countdown to Season 6 is no exception. Let's all become fans!

That's all for now. I need to get on with revising for an exam tomorrow. Talking of which, I may or may not get a chance to post anyhting tomorrow, but if that happens, I'll just make it up with two the following day.

Until then... Namaste!

Sun and Locke - A Love Scene

I found this video while looking for something else entirely. Just had to share it! It seems an unlikely romance has been blossoming right under our noses. To be honest, Sun and Locke would make a lovely couple. In this scene, from, I think, Dead is Dead (correct me if I'm wrong), Frank and Ben get the hint and leave Sun and Locke in private.

Slocke?

Saturday 2 January 2010

I never blamed a boar for all my problems...

Well I never... It's time for another classic scene from the Lost archives.

This is about as good as writing gets on television. Such a powerful set-piece on so many levels. Okay, so it's a "Skate" scene for all those who care. This is the springboard for what was long the show's primary romantic pairing (although, these days 'Sawyer and Juliet' has taken that position.

This scene starts off as quite an awkward exchange between two people forced together by being shunned by the rest of their group. Sawyer breaks the ice by suggesting to play I Never, calling it "a way to get to know each other better".

Watch how the scene turns from awkward to flirty to bitter to downright depressing all in the space of a few minutes... and then Sawyer's faux cheerful remark at the last is just the slightly ironic cherry on a wonderfully multi-layered cake.

Kate and Sawyer play I Never

I should have saved this, and yesterday's Miles/Hurley exchange, until the end of this countdown, because they are two of my favourite scenes ever. In the coming days expect some Benjamin Linus and some Sawyer nicknames and I've also been mulling over my top 5 Lost Beauties... Keep checking back to find out how that pans out.

Namaste!

The Countdown Begins

I was going to start with a video of the very opening sequence of Lost as a little reminder of why we were hooked from the very first minute of the show, but I can't actually find it anywhere. I'm guessing if you're reading this then you've already seen it a hundred times anyway.

So let me go back in time to the 1970's. Hurley has alway's provided the show's comic relief, but in Season 5, he formed something of a double-act with the Miles Straum. I swear Hurley and Miles should have their own sitcom.

Their funniest scene for me was also one of the most important scenes in the entire series, because it set the rules for the show's take on Time Travel.

Miles and Hurley discuss time travel - Whatever Happened Happened

I'm not a massive fan of the so-called "love quadrangle" involving Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Juliet, but here is a recent Season 6 promo from ABC which focuses on just that:

Official Season 6 promo (Love Soldier)

That's all for today. Come back every day for a selection of Lost videos, links and other random stuff (but mostly videos). Feel free to discuss anything you like in the comments, and tell all your friends!

Namaste!
